| Internet Protocol | Internet Protocol (IP) is the main communications protocol for relaying data packets (known as datagrams) across the Internet from the source host to the destination host solely based on their addresses. IP is responsible for routing datagrams across network boundaries and is the primary protocol that establishes the Internet. IP defines the addressing methods and structures for datagrams. The Internet Protocol Suite is often referred to as TCP/IP. The major version of IP is IPv4, although IPv6 is growing in its deployment worldwide. |
