How to clean your phone
Business telephone handsets from companies such as Cisco, Samsung, Nortel, Avaya and Panasonic are durable and reliable tools in the workplace. Nevertheless, it's important to ensure a level of cleanliness from the handsets.
Tools and Chemicals
A soft cloth and water is recommended along with AF Phone-Cleaner Wipes.
The phone body: Moisten a cloth with the cleaning product and wipe the surface of the telephone. For hard-to-reach spots, such as the spaces between raised numbers, use cotton swabs wrapped in Phone Cleaner Wipes. Be careful not to get any liquid near the hook-switch, speaker, or other openings.
The handset: wipe the surface of the handset with the cleaning wipes as since this is the part of the phone that touches your face, it is important to disinfect it.
The cord: To clean a dirty cord, remove it from the phone, and dampen a cloth with water and a few drops of mild dishwashing liquid. Rub the cord down with the cloth, and dry with a second cloth. Make sure the cord is absolutely dry before you reattach it to the phone.
Technique
Unplug your phone before cleaning to prevent inadvertently setting any features on the phone when wiping the keys. Please note if your phone is an IP phone (such as a Cisco 7641, 7961, 7962 etc.) it will also disconnect your computer.
a. Spread your cleaning cloth and wipe the hand set thoroughly to remove heavy soil from make up, grease, etc... A toothpick or pin can be used to clean the small holes or slots. Use caution though, as the microphone and speaker inside the handset can be damaged by punctures, and never allow liquid to enter these holes.
b. If you have an extremely dirty dial pad use a cotton swab wrapped in Phone Cleaner Wipes to clean the individual numbers and between them. With the telephone unplugged, spray your cleaning cloth and wipe the face of the keys by pressing down on the numbers to wipe them thoroughly.
c. In the event you do allow liquid to leak into the handset, or if you accidentally spill Tea or coffee on it, unplug it immediately. Turn the phone over to allow as much liquid to drain off as possible. Wipe it thoroughly and allow it to dry for at least 2 days in a warm and dry place before trying to plug it back in.
