Dial 101 for non-emergencies
The Police have launched a new non-emergency number in order to reduce the pressure on the 999 emergency service.
From the end of January 2012 you will need to dial 101 to report a non-serious crime including theft or damage to property. It is emphasised that 999 should still be used if you are reporting a crime in progress or any other serious emergency situation.
You should use 101 if:
- Your car has been stolen
- Your property has been damaged
- You suspect drug use or dealing in your neighbourhood
- You need to report a minor traffic collision
- You have information about crime in your area
- You have general enquiries requiring police assistance
The 101 non-emergency service is available now in large parts of Southern England, Eastern England, London, West Midlands and Wales. All du Pré Connect and du Pré Calls and Lines customers in these areas will be able to access the new service. By the end of January 2012 the service will be available nationwide.
As recommended by the Government and the Police, all calls to 101 will be charged a flat connection fee of 15p but with no pence per minute cost thereafter.
